Wireless Display Not Working - Fixed
#1

Hi Guys,

I'm building up my Weather Station. At this stage I have built my TX (3.11) and RX (5.02) with 20x4 LCD screen. At this stage I only have temp/humidity and baro sensors connected. TX and RX appear to be working ok and are communicating fine, and I can see "In" and "Out" temps and humidity on the RX display..

I've assembled the wireless display and conected to a 2.8" TFT touch screen. The screen initializes ok and paints the main page ok. After about 4 mins, I get message "not receiving data". I "don't" see any blinking LED on the wireless display..????

The WD address in both the RX unit and the WD is default 0xA3. In the RX I have a 1 in the option to relay data to WD. I see the blinking TX led on the RX working.

At this stage I'm really not sure where to go next and how to debug this issue. Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated and openly received.

Hope that together we can work though this and get this WD operational. In advance, thanks guys. Look forward to you comments.

I moved the WD away from the RX unit, approx 1.5 meters. Did a couple of resets, and on one occasion I did see "In" and "Out" temps and humidity on the WD TFT display. But once only. I haven't been able to repeat this. Note, I do not have any temp sensor connected to the WDisplay.

Thanks guys.

I temporarily moved the WDisplay out to another room, approx 10m away, and still no data on the WD screen. So I don't think its a proximity issue and the TX swamping the RX in the WDisplay.

What should the LED do on a working WirelessDisplay..??? Should it blink as it receives data..???

I connected a CRO to the Antenna Output on the TX (sensor sender) unit, and captured a signal with the camera on my phone (not a capture cro Sad ). I then connected the CRO to the Antenna output on the TX module of the RX unit, and captured similar signal.

Not sure how to attached photos to this post, in this forum..???? Is it possible somehow..???

So, on the surface, it looks like the TX module on my WeatherDuino RX unit working and sending a signal out, to the WirelessDisplay.

I'm using those little 80mm 433Mhz antennas, from eBay, that have the right-angle bend just after the connector.

Ok, I worked out how to add attachedments, via the "full" editor option. Have attached the two captures from the CRO. These were captured at 20mV per division @ 5mS sweep.

The TX unit is workig ok, and the signals look similar, so I presume my TX module on the RX unit is functioning ok and sending a signal.

Yes, it should blink as it receives data, what seems that is not happening, which causes the RED warning to appear on the display.

So, or there are a problem in the TX module on the RX unit, or a problem on the RX module on the WD unit, I can't see any other reason.
I suppose you have installed an antenna on the TX output of the receiver unit.
Do you have the RX unit powered via the external power supply (12V)?

Edited: I wrote this post before you added the pictures. So for now seems we can eliminate the problem with the TX module on the RX unit

This don't cause any problem, just set that option in the user configurable options. (To receive inside temp/ hum data from the receiver unit set this option to 0).

Code:
// --- Use local TH sensor or Main Station TH sensor for Inside Temp / Hum display
#define UseLocalTH_Sensor     0    // 1= Local TH Sensor, 0= Main Station TH sensor

Please check this, by default it is at 1.

I have the local TH sensor set to "0" in the WirelessDisplay UserConfigOptions.

I setup a spectrum analyser with one of those 210mm 433Mhz antennas, and I am seeing a signal output from the RX unit @ about 60-65dB, every time the TX Led blinks, so again I believe the RX unit is transmitting a signal ok. Have attached a photo of the capture.

Think I'll turn my attention now to the WirelessDisplay unit.

OK, solved the issue. Smile

I had a look at the "data" signal out of the 433 RX module on the WirelessDisplay and it just looked like noise. Had a look though my parts, and installed a new 433Mhz receiver module and the WirelessDisplay came to life. I now see the temps, humidity and baro pressure on the WirelessDisplay. And now when I look at the "data" line out of the 433Mhz RX module on the CRO, I can see the signal stream coming out. The LED on the WirelessDisplay also blink now as it is receiving data.

So the culprit turned out to be a faulty 433Mhz receiver module from eBay China, in the WirelessDisplay unit....

I'm glad to know that the WD unit is working now. Thanks for the update.
