Yes, it should blink as it receives data, what seems that is not happening, which causes the RED warning to appear on the display.

So, or there are a problem in the TX module on the RX unit, or a problem on the RX module on the WD unit, I can't see any other reason.
I suppose you have installed an antenna on the TX output of the receiver unit.
Do you have the RX unit powered via the external power supply (12V)?

Edited: I wrote this post before you added the pictures. So for now seems we can eliminate the problem with the TX module on the RX unit
