Yet another build under way
#1

Well some of my parts have finally started to arrive so construction is finally under way Smile

The only weather station parts I had were from an old Oregon wmr968 that suffered rather badly when were hit by a hail storm

The rain gauge on the corner of the shed was all that survived.

I have purchased a complete Fine Offset type station and will use the sensors from it for my station

anyway I have completed the TX board, and all seems ok. I am using a dht22 until my sht device arrives.

So now on to the RX unit...

Still waiting on some parts but got a bit done on the RX unit today

I have mounted the DHT22 and the BMP180 on the outside of the box. These little red cases fit them well.

Nice job.

I don't see any issue with mounting the BMP180 inside in the box, unless of course it's hermetically sealed.
Getting good airflow over the Temp sensors is a good idea too, otherwise it may lag behind real world temperature changes.

No the case is not hermetically sealed but the red cases do look very pretty on each side Smile .

I Bought several of them on impulse a couple of years ago. At the time got the look from the minister for war and finance that I was just buying for the sake of buying. But now I can show her they were of use after all.

Good job Boots33!
Thanks for the pics.

If I'm not wrong you installed the flash memory chip, which is a wise decision, making the system ready for the upcoming software version that brings support for an hardware data logger, however, just in case you have missed this info, the data logger can't be used together with a TFT display. To use the data logger, you need a serial 20x4 (recommended, or 16x2) LCD display. Fortunately it will fit nicely in your box.

Thanks for the info Werg, I had seen that post. I had a couple of tft displays in my parts box so used one for this project. Is the data logging function mainly for those who don't want to run a pc 24 hours a day?
I have a server running at home all the time so will be running cumulus on that machine. Will you still be supporting the tft version as well in future releases of your RX software.

Well first test run seems to have worked out ok. I have not yet installed cumulus so still that to do.

each weekend gets me a step closer to a finished station. Smile

Yes it was great to see it all working. Thank you for the time and effort you have put into this project.

I had some problems getting the rx unit to hook up with cumulus on my server. I could get it to work on my win7 desktop machine but It would not work on my win 7 server computer. Tried different drivers, even installed the arduino programmer and it could connect to and program the nano but cumulus refused to connect .

Wasted half of Sunday getting it sorted. In the end tried a different nano and it worked first go. No idea what was up there but it is now working, that's the main thing. Love the look of the steel gauges.

I decided to gut my old wmr968 temp sensor and use that housing for my sht-10. I know it will not be as good as a proper shield but it will allow me to get the station installed a bit faster for now. i will make sure the temp sensor is mounted in a shady area. Perhaps later I will look at building something better.

Here is the housing with the new temp sensor mounted

I also picked up a box for the tx unit. I will be mounting mine inside a shed so do not need a waterproof type. Got this one from jaycar.

I did a walk around with the tx unit to test for range and was pleasantly surprised by how far i could get before i lost the connection. Got a lot better range than my wmr968 ever did.
