NOAA/METEOR satellite

Question

Hi everybody,
I managed to fix my weather satellite receiver this weekend but I realized that I must improve my antenna too.
From what I saw, I believe that QHF antenna is the one that I should do right now (before I used a turnstyle antenna) but there is so many choices regarding to the materials ... anyone does have any experience in such materials? (copper, aluminium, brass, etc)

Best regards

Hi, I looked into building a QFH some time ago and found a few articles on the web. Most seem to use copper water pipe, used in the airconditioning industry. I also saw one using coax cable which I started building but like most projects never finished.Confused I use a ground plane style antenna made out of aluminium rod with a LNA but I don't have a very good site and can only see in one direction which limits reception somewhat.
Here are a few links

Thanks for the info sharing.
My doubts was about the materials. I also saw a project using coaxial cable but I don't know why, I didn't like the looks of it Big Grin
I'll try to get some copper pipe and try it.
Also remembered to do it with aluminium pipe ... let's see witch way to follow when I have some free time.

If I may ask, witch LNA are you using?

I'll need to get back to you on the LNA. The details are on my main computer which has decided to go faulty so when I get it up and running again, I'll send you the details.

Found it. It is a LNA for All. Have a look at this site. I ordered one and the guy who sent it would not accept payment until I let him know I received it. I had to put it in a box(diecast) with coax connectors IN/OUT.
