I came across a sensor (Aosong AM2306) and am wondering if it would be suitable for the system.

The AM2306 isn't in the list of supported sensors, however it's possible that it will work as a DHT22. If you want try it at your own risk.

As an opinion, it is expensive and the radiation shield don't seems effective.
