New user, and I'm still trying to establish what the WD Pro 2 can do, so my first question is can it receive and decode the Davis Vantage Vue ISS RF signals for display?

The parts list shows a 433MHz receiver but the Davis units user 866MHz, it a question of fitting a 866MHz receiver instead?

Hi Dave,

Welcome, and thank you for your interest about the WeatherDuino Pro2 system.
Replying to your question: No, the WeatherDuino Pro2 RX units can't receive data from the Davis ISS, and its not just a matter of changing the RF receiver module. The software isn't designed for that.
Our Davis emulation, which include the Davis hardware data logger, as designed to allow the system to communicate with any weather software which works with any Davis weather station. Apart from that, its a completely different system.

Hi,I'm currently using a RPi running Weewx connected to a Vantage Vue via a weatherlink USB cable, so I think your system would support that type of setup and enable me to have a WDuino weather server running autonomously rather than keep maintain my RPi system and then a WiFi connection to e.g. Weather Underground?

If you don't need to locally store any data, yes, you can use just the WeatherDuino Pro2 PLUS to upload data to WU.

Vantage Vue on Weatherduino,
The Vantage Vue is quite difficult to integrate into the Weatherduino Project;

Anemometer: Vantage Vue Spec Sheet states “Magnetic Detection”, this probably means a Hall Effect Switch, which works with Weatherduino but I expect you will need to alter some of the Code in the Weatherduino Sketch to suit its’ dimensions.

Wind Vane: Magnetic Encoder, not sure what this means but probably either reed switches as per the Fine Offset Vane. Need to find out what signal it is outputting. http://www.meteocercal.info/forum/Thread...-Any-ideas

Rain Gauge; This will work but you will need to add some wire to reach the Weatherduino TX board.
Temp Humidity; Need to be replaced with an SHT31 / SHT21  or similar (but of course it can go in the same radiation shield).

All the Davis Electronics will need to be removed, I am not sure if there is room in the Vantage Vue housing to put a TX board; if there is you will probably have to butcher the housing to get it to fit. If there is not you will have to put the TX board in a separate housing and run wires to it.

The Vantage Vue has been designed by Davis as a plug and play system, and also, I think,  Davis have deliberately made it difficult to hack.

You have a few options,
1)      try to hack the Vantage Vue,

3)      Wait for an old Davis to come along either Vantage Pro, or older Weather Monitor/Wizard etc

Which will have all the parts you need except for the T/H sensor.  If it’s electronics are dead all the better, it will make it cheaper and you will replace all the Davis electronics anyway.

Keep the RPi it will work very well with any Weatherduino for your own website via Cumulus or similar. A Weatherduino Pro2 PLUS will transmit directly to Wunderground via your router. A Weatherduino Pro2  will also transmit to Wunderground but via the RPi with Cumulus installed.
                                                       
Whatever you do, if you decide to take on the Weatherduino system you will be able to create a station that matches or exceeds the capability of the most expensive of the Davis Stations, and with judicious shopping around and ebay searching, at a fraction of the cost.
