Problems I had with a SHT10 sensor
#1

Hi,
I'd like to share some ideas. I had a problem with a SHT10 external temp/humidity sensor, after the adverse weather we've had here in the UK this sensor started showing readings of :
-40 temp
6550 humidity

I put this down to some moisture getting into the sensor, even though it was housed in an enclosure inside a Stevenson shield.
I downloaded a data sheet from Sensiron which implied that the SHT10 could/can be recalibrated, which I tried, the sensor was baked in an oven for several hours at 100c/ fan assisted, data sheet said 10 hours, it was then left out at room temperature near enough to the guide lines in the data sheet.

In the mean time I ordered items from farnell,

SF1 Item No 1390624 for SHT1x series sensors
SF2 Item No 1892485 for SHT2x series sensors

These are sensor filter caps which fit over the sensors and supposedly helps prevent ingress of moisture and other things.

SF1 come with 2 legs which allow for through PCB mounting, as my PCB didn't have these holes, the legs where care fully cut of and I used some clear silicon sealant being VERY CAREFULL not get any in/on the sensor itself, using this sealant not holds the cap in place but also seals it, ( Epoxy resin can also be used ) The sensor was rewired, rehoused and connected to the tx.

Readings gained where similar to the internal sensor so at least I was getting some near normal readings from it, The sensor is now back outside and seems to be working well, having compared its readings to other local weather stations on weather underground.

I would therefore suggest the use of these caps in other members
weather stations
