Hi Guys,

I worked on this "How To Guide" a while back and never got round to finalising it.  I'm on holidays at the moment, so I thought what better than to finish of this How To guide.  It was created solely for you, the users of WeatherDuino.  When I created my weather station I recall doing heaps and heaps of reading online and learning, and a lot of trial and error to get my WeatherDuino station online at WeatherUndergroud using CumulusMX and a RasPi.  So I decided to create this document and its purpose was to take someone totally new from opening the RasPi box to having their WeatherDuino online at WeatherUnderground.  Although I have read over it, please excuse any errors and let me know if there is something that needs changing or updating.

So without further ado, please refer the attached PDF document and enjoy.

Is it possible using the Pro plus2 to be able to send to Wunderground like I am doing but also then also have cumulus MX running on a Pi to be able to have it as a webserver as well?

This way the data is available on Wunderground and also to be able to look at it directly from any other IP and use the GUI from Cumulus?

Hi Mark,

I'm using exactly RX+ myself, and I have to say that it's better than before, because CumulusMX still introduces further unreliability into the data transmission chain.

So - I strongly recommend.

Allowing outside access to the Cumulus Web GUI is not a good idea, as everyone will have access to the configuration pages. There is a lot od discussions about this matter on the Cumulus forum.

The best way to do what you want, is use the RPI as a webserver, and serve the default Cumulus webpages from it, or even use the Saratoga Templates. If you don't expect too much simultaneous accesses it works pretty well.

I did not understand that Mark wants to access the site directly on his RPi! (Maybe it's got my bad English,
but when I read it again, it's quite clear ...)    Mark, that's really unacceptable!

I have suggested my recommendation as CumulusMX is also designed. The Web on RPi serves for configuration
and possibly internal information, but for external access it is necessary to create a web site somewhere in the hosting
and upload your data there. You can use either CumulusMX itself or the excellent Saratoga templates as recommended
by Werk_AG, or a variety of other templates or scripts - freely on the internet or do something yourself.

But never allow free access to any of your internal server (not just CumulusMX) from outside. He would be attacked
within minutes, maybe even seconds ... (I know it very well, I also deal with the construction of firewalls.)

I have CumulusMX uploading my data to an offsite web server which hosts my weather site. But I also have CumulusMX uploading to Weather Underground as well. I had the Weather Underground uploading in place before I set up my website but I left Weather Underground in place after the website was created. The benefit is that Wunderground sends me an email if it stops getting information from CumulusMX. That gives me the tip to check why things are not working as they should. It hasn't happened often but it has happened and Wunderground alerts me to it fairly quickly.
