Soil temperature and Agriculture applications.
#1

Is there any way of adding a soil temp probe based on DS18B20, thermistor, or other similar waterproof temperature device? On tx board we have two sockets for temp / humidity. Perhaps use the tmp06 connection on rx board? Would like to use this for some agriculture research.

If that is possible, I wonder if soil moisture could be incorporated at all? I would definitely add these to my system if it could be supported.

Not just soil temp; perhaps this thread should be Agri applications:

For Soil Moisture:

and / or:

I have one of these below Davis 7846 Leaf Wetness, I think they all work on the same principle.

+ some Degree day sums!! Becomes an even more useful agricultural tool. Another TX type board perhaps; at ground level.

Also one of these based on a 10K NTC thermistor;

Having had a small network of 1-Wire temperature sensors at a previous residence, I've been eying off the connector marked "EXP" on the TX board with interest. The TX firmware leaves quite bit of unused flash memory, so adding the appropriate library should not be problem. I'd probably use a second, dedicated TX board, simply because I'd want the network of sensors to be inside the house.

I wouldn't mind a swimming pool temp sensor. I guess this one would be harder to implement with the sensor needing to be waterproof, unless, maybe I wrapped a sensor around a filter pipe, but then this only be accurate when the filter is running.

I think this one would be a good starting point for a waterproof sensor:

Looks interesting Shred. Thanks for pointing it out.

The waterproof version of DS18B20 is fully waterproof. Look this up under arduino it is very easy to hook up to any arduino board and is very accurate, I have a few running underwater and underground.the nice thing with them is that each probe has its own address so you can rig up half a dozen onto one arduino input, and get a readout for each probe. See link to ebay above. http://www.hacktronics.com/Tutorials/ard...orial.html You could, uncle bob, rig a whole series of these onto an independent uno board for less than $20.00. However it would nice to put this into weatherduino.
The one in shreds link is the same as ebay link in my first post above. It is a DS18B20.
