Absolutely correct. This is just in case one is using a streamlined custom version of the Kernel (which may happen with certain miniaturized devices - mine is originally meant to act as network storage alone - and should almost never happen with "full" devices) and is here mostly intended as a mark of progress.
For that matter the issue with Linux and WeatherDuino is not driver support but the fact that currently there is no working client software available.
Cumulus MX has restricted access and Weewx does not seem to use a suitable handshake.
