I found 2.8" tft displays from ebay, they are using the same ILI9341 driver as 2.4" tft. There were also 3.2" tft with ILI9341 drivers, but without pcb. This 2.8" is good for my eyes, price was about 8€ each. Picture below has 2.8" connected and below that 2.4" and 2.2" tft.
This is very good news for us! These displays must be very new to eBay. I'm always checking for SPI tft's, and have not seen them before. Ordered one!
I'm aware of those ILI9341 3.2" tft without pcb, and there are at least one ILI9341 3.2" with SPI interface and a pcb. The pcb can be fitted with a flash memory for graphics, which can allow us to also have icons and not only text, but driving it requires more horse power than a Arduino Nano can deliver.
Any chance you can point to a supplier or ebay item number for these ? I am struggling to find (on AU ebay anyway, even searching internationally) a 2.8" display with SPI connection; there's lots with parallel connections, but that's not what we want/need.
Search "ILI9341 2.8 tft" and you will get results. Due to chinese new year many sellers are now away, but this wont last long. I bought mine from bon.display, only two displays from three were working. Buying only one from china is always a risk.
I also ordered from bon.display, just one unit so fingers crossed!
A strange thing is that on eBay only two sellers have those 2.8 models. Or they are relatively new or... no one wants to sell them! I hope that it's because they are newcomers.

Brett, like you I've searched for the 2.8 display and had no luck using my normal www.ebay.co.uk address. I don't know if this will work for you if you're using www.ebay.com.au but it did for me here in the UK:
I went to www.google.com and did a search which does find 2.8 displays from bon.display and unique.buy, the only difference being the prices are in usd rather than gbpounds, but at least I can find (and buy) items that don't show up on the uk site for whatever reason. I've been using this little trick for a while now and it's worked well for me.
(I also discovered that if I edit the webpage address and change only the .com in the ebay address to .co.uk the items still appear and I conveniently get the prices in both usd and [approximate] gbpounds!)
I received today my 2.8 FTF from bon.display and it is already working like a charm in one of my Wireless Display units.

I have found another source for these displays, that some people might be interested in. The Bon.Display version on ebay does not have a touch panel or controller attached, but the version I found does, for virtually the same price. Not suggesting the touch-less versions aren't useful in WDPro2 scenarios, but touch might be a cool additional thing especially if you're like me and have many different projects to use these with.
And yes, I never order just one !
