Alternative Wind Vanes and anemometers - JT118 - 22-06-2015

Just thought an idea of posting different wind vanes and anemometers with a note of the output values, as far as I can see for wind vanes there are two types;

a) Fine offset type resistors on a board
b) potentiomemter type as per Davis with potentiometer of various values, 1Kohm (didcot being 1Kohm (SAKAE LNB22)) I have found and 20Kohms more usual ie Davis (Bourns 6639 20K potentiometer 360º turn no stop)

Anemometers:
a) Reed switches one or two clicks per revolution
b) Voltage output ( 0 to 1 or more volts)
c) Current output (4-20ma)
d) Hall effect
e) optical tachometer type

We could slowly develop this thread; if it is OK by Werk, and perhaps someone could look at suitable code changes to allow these sensors to be used, to allow us to use these often very high quality sensors occasionally found on ebay from old research projects.

Didcot:

From the mid 1980's to mid 1990's
Very high quality:

Anemometers:

Various configurations, current, voltage and reed switch.

NRG Anemometers:

Many types; Hall effect; voltage output and current output.

Occasionally available at end of wind turbine project surveys

Davis Weather 7911 anemometer and vane.

Reed switch (one click per rev) and 20Kohm potentiometer.

Available on ebay for about £75.00, bomb proof, mine has put up with Scottish wind for 6 years without any trouble.

To me it's OK. If at any time something come out, that I find useful to the project, I have no problem in thinking about adding it.
Of course, it must not break compatibility with existing hardware, and don't imply adding much code (The Nano memory is already used almost to the limit).

Am I able to connect this type of anemometer:

Low level AC sine wave, frequency linearly proportional to wind speed

RNRG 40C Anemometer ?

Thank you

Unfortunately no. Only anemometers with pulse output are supported.
You can see a list of the currently supported and tested weather instruments here:

Thank you
