VP1 it's kind of a programming mode selector. In one position it prevents arduino from reset when cumulus (re)start (normal usage), in another position, it allows arduino to reset (just needed if/when you want to flash new firmware version).
If your pcb is 3.01 or later, i believe that you can find VP1 and VP2 marked on the board, in older pcb without those marks (I'm not sure which versions does not have the pins/mark) , it's easy to add the connection as well.
