I have just started to build up another WeatherDuino Pro2 PLUS AT2560 receiver for my home weather setup, but I cannot get anything to show up on the display I’m using (2.8 SPI TFT (ILI9341), the ones I have are from ebay and are exactly as pictured in the   “warning about some 2.8 SPI TFT (ILI9341) displays on eBay” thread on the right hand side.
 
I am using Arduino 18.8 & AVR Board Manager 1.6.21 get no compilation errors, the output on the serial monitor is expected, I just get nothing on the display other than the backlight illuminating.
 
I have 2 of these displays, both are the same, I have tested them both with the Adafruit library & test code and both work, although I can’t get them to work with the TFT_ILI9341 library and example code either.
 
My original working Pro2 Plus RX unit is using the display with the yellow pin connector, but I am reluctant to disturb that for fear of breaking it!
 
I have checked my wiring several times, but all seems fine.
I have a spare Meduino Mega2560 Pro-mini board somewhere I’ll try to find that and see if perhaps my other one is faulty.
 
Any help with fault finding would be most welcome!

Do you see any difference in the grey of the display "panel" with power and no power.
My question goes in the direction wether the backlight is on or not.

Yes the backlight comes on after a few seconds "I just get nothing on the display other than the backlight illuminating."

I have a spare Meduino Mega2560 Pro-mini board somewhere I’ll try to find that and see if perhaps my other one is faulty.
 

Hi,

Before anything else, please be in mind that those displays can't be connected directly to the Arduino pins. The display is powered by 5V but the logic interface is 3.3V so you will need a logic level converter, for all the control lines. If you connect the display directly to pins with a 5V level usually it will damage them.

Had you removed the diode on the Meduino Mega2560 Pro-mini board before using it on the Pro2 PLUS board?
Does the 3.3V regulator seems to be quite hot?

If you are sure the TFT display is good, and it still don't display anything when connected to the Pro2 PLUS board, them, most probably the chip which acts as logic level converted becomes damaged.
If the diode on the Meduino board wasn't removed, unplugging the 9v power supply while keeping the board connected by USB, could cause the damage of the logic level chip.

Thanks for the helpful reply, I did remove the diode but maybe after trying the board a few times!, I have trued the other Meduino board now & still not working so I guess it must be the 74AHC244, I have ordered a replacement and will see if that fixes it.

Just to conclude this thread, I replaced the surface mount AHC244 IC on the board and the display is working fine now...
