I saw you were using a big fan, that's why I asked that question.
Although the MOSFET transistor used to switch the fan on or off, support high currents, the 7809 regulator is limited to 1A.
When a fan is connected to the system, a heatsink in the 7809 is required.
The system has been designed to use fans with consumption of around 200mA, if the current draw of your fan (at 9V) is less than 200mA, it is safe to control it with WeatherDuino, but put in use your unused solar sensor, it's also a creative job.
