Happy Birthday to my WeatherDuino!

It was on 20 December 2015, exactly a year ago today, that my WeatherDuino Pro2 replaced the Fine Offset (Maplin UK) hardware that had been in use here since the end of December 2008. Considering the low cost of it the F O had generally worked well while it was in service, although it was inclined to occasional problems with the radio link which eventually failed completely.

I have deliberately not altered my WeatherDuino system in any way since it was installed last year, not even updating the Nano. Both transmitter and receiver have performed perfectly the whole time and have been completely reliable which is a great testament to Werk's design and development skills.

Having passed the "year in service" milestone, I'm intending to update the hardware whenever I have the chance early in the new year, especially as there is the great new "Plus" receiver... Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

So I would like to thank Werk for the incredible job he has done in creating this very versatile system. Not only that, but the ongoing development and support we all get from him is in my opinion amazing, especially as I'm sure he has a fulltime job and family wanting and needing his time too!

It doesn't seem adequate really, but all I can say is a very big "thank you", Werk, for all you've done and are still doing to make the WeatherDuino the great success that it is. I hope you and all your loved ones have a very Happy and peaceful Christmas.

Mine's been up over two years now, solidly. I was lucky to get two days out of the Fine offset before I'd have to do the battery toggle and remove spikes from Cumulus.
So yes, it's a testament to Werk's fine design and coding skills.

That's right Zitoune. I think that we already can disclose, that we are working in a special WeatherDuino model to be left in Mars on the next NASA mission. The prototype is almost concluded, except in a little detail... They are still studding about which units (Metric or Imperial) should be used to send to Earth, the data from the rain gauge.  Smile

It will also measure wetting the leaves and soil moisture (cb or vwc)?  Confused Smile

In true, the Soil / Leaf interface was firstly designed for this mission in Mars. If someone look more carefully to the images of the first robot on the soil of Mars, he is drilling the soil not to take samples, but just to open the hole for installing our soil moisture sensor. I'm not sure if this isn't classified info, so it's better don't say anything more. Cool

Hahaha yes exactly ! the robotic arm would sink the VH400 in the red pant soil but we are still facing challenges to dig the hole for the LWS due to its funny shape. Werk's working on it Smile
