Hi Werk, would be interested to know what make of vane you're using and what the diagnosis is. I was thinking of getting an Inspeed e-Vane2 (together with the Inspeed Vortex 8-pulse anemometer which I remember you getting) but will have doubts if you have one which has failed after a relatively short time...

This is the third time I have problems with my Inspeed E-Vane. Technically the device is fantastic, it uses an Hall Effect sensor instead of a potenciometer, so no friction nor any dead band, however in my opinion it have a construction defect. Some elements as dust, can reach and be acumulatted in the uper part of the shaft.
This was the cause of the first two issues: The amount of acumulated dust along the shaft was so high that it causes that the vane stop to rotate at all. I had to remove it from the mast, and carefully clean everything.

The third and last issue, in my opinion, was caused by the same construction defect. As the dust can reach the upper part of the shaft, under heavy rain and strong winds, water can also reach the top part of the shaft and from there get inside. A single micro drop of water, was enought to completly damage the pcb and the components.
I contacted Gary from Inspeed, (he is very responsive and kindfull) which promptly arranged a way to send me a new PCB, however the cost is $28 USD. Next time that it fail, I will not even try to repair it.

   

Regarding the anemometer its a fantastic piece. It worths the money, but I don't think the same regarding the E-Vane.

I did a permanent modification to my Inspeed E-vane which I think will completly solve the detected issues. Time will say.
