Importante Notice - November 2020 software upgrades - Werk_AG - 21-11-2020

We have just published a new software upgrade for the WeatherDuino Air Quality Monitor II.
This new sofware its a major upgrade, which had implied make changes on the software of all WeatherDuino receivers (Pro2 PLUS and Pro2 Compact) and WiFi Wireless Display unit. For this reason, were also published today upgraded software versions for all those WeatherDuino devices.

Following, you can read about the changes on the AQM II software, and its implications.

Starting on v3.1, the WeatherDuino Air Quality Monitor II, can report the Air Quality Index not only on the USA EPA standard, but also on European EAQI, United Kingdom DAQI and Australian AQC-NWS standards.

On all the standards referred above, there are two common ways to compute the Air Quality Index: 1 hour average or 24 hours average of the the dust particles (PM2.5 and PM10.0). 1 hour average is more used on fast changing environments, like urban areas or near high traffic roads, while the 24 hours average is more suitable to places where air conditions not change so fast, like rural areas.
The new AQM II software can provide AQ Index based on the 1 hour average or on 24 hours average, its an user choice.

Implications of this upgrade:

Case 1 - Using the AQM II as a stand-alone device (i.e. not sending data to an WeatherDuino receiver)
- There isn't any major implications.
- Direct upload to ThingSpeak works as before.
- If you are using the unit to uploading data to a personal server, please note that there are changes on the fields sent. See the example PHP script included on the software package.

Case 2 - Using the AQM II to transmit Air Quality data to an WeatherDuino receiver Pro2 PLUS or Pro2 Compact.
- Its imperative upgrade the receivers software to Nov. 2020 release, otherwise the receiver will display wrong Air Quality data and may even crash.
- The receiver will show the colour codes and text sentences corresponding to the Air Quality Index, according to standard chosen.
- Direct upload to ThingSpeak works as before.
- If you are using the unit to uploading data to a personal server, please note that there are changes on the fields sent. See the example PHP script included on the software package.

Thanks for reading. Hope this upgrade be useful for many of you.

Just a message to thank you for this update, due the quiet Christmas I have had the time to apply these updates to all of my devices and bring everything fully up to date.
The list is, WeatherDuino Weather Display, AQMII, WeatherDuino Pro2 Universal TX, WeatherDuino Pro2 PLUS Receiver.

I am pleased to report that all units updated without any issues, and it was interesting to use the OTA ports successfully for the first time.

For reference I used Arduino v18.8 with Arduino AVR board manager v 1.6.21 and esp8266 v2.74

Thanks to all concerned for this superb project, long may it continue.

Best wishes and a Happy new year to all involved with WeatherDuino.

Andy
