Hall effect wind vane - Bneaus - 21-04-2017

Hi
another Brisbane station up and running, first I must thank all involved in the development of the station and making it available to all, it has been a very enjoyable project to build. I have just added a wind vane to the system I used a Hall effect 0-360 Deg angle sensor  available on Ebay and Alliexpress for about $27Aus, the device looks like a small electric motor with a 6mm stainless shaft, precision bearings, torque <5mN-m, long life 50 million revolutions and no contacts three terminals on the base gnd, Vcc (5V) and output (0-5V) at the moment the wind vane is under test and working satisfactory using the Inspeed E vane settings

Looks great!

Is the system weather sealed? Did you turn the parts yourself?

Hi,
thanks for the interest, I turned the top that holds the vane it fits over the sensor so that moisture is unable to enter from the top I will seal the bottom with dual layer heat shrink when I mount it outside. Weatherproof sensors are now available unfortunately not when I ordered the one I used.

Nice work.
Maybe it works even better using the Davis vane settings. Have you tried it?

Thanks,
I have changed the settings to the Davis vane which has the same output as the sensor I used 0-5v, I have aligned the base and vane using a compass I am very happy with the results,  a very accurate and sensitive wind vane.

Fantastic!

Please could you post links to the unsealed part you used? Also the sealed one you mentioned?

I haven't been able to find them on Ali express.

Hi
the Holzer angle sensor is the one I used with an IP rating of IP40
the weatherproof version has a rating of IP65 link below.

Wholesale 360 degree 0-10V output Contactless angle position sensor - Alibaba.com

Calt HAE18 SSI is another version with an IP65 rating, they also make a hall effect wind vane, listed on Alibaba.com
