New Station - rich27gc - 10-03-2017

Hi All

The new station is progressing, all the bits eventually came. The RX and TX PCB's were promptly sent the Werk (excellent service  Big Grin), and the parts came in dribs and drabs from around the world. I eventually decided that most of the parts can be sourced from Europe with a small price increase, which I was happy with considering they came faster.
It's been about 20 years since I last soldered components on to PCB's but it all came back to me once I'd started, apart from having to remove my glasses to see where to solder!!
The forum has been invaluable to me and I've done quite a bit of reading to help with the setup. Most of the queries I had were already asked on the forum and some I figured out for myself.
At the moment the station is assembled in my kitchen, just need to mount in boxes.
I've really enjoyed the whole process.

Richard

This is something I really like to ear. Hope that the use of your new weather station will give you many years of pleasure and fun..
Thank you for sharing with us the picture of your assembling.

Thanks for the congrats guys, I am really enjoying the challenge.
It's been a wet afternoon in this part of the north of England today so I experimented getting the station to work on CumulusMX. Took longer than I though it would but it's working now. The problem was I couldn't find name of the USB port, After some trial and error testing it turned out to be /dev/ttyACM0.

I'll post pics when I get round to housing everything.

Richard

Users of Pro2 PLUS boards that are using a PI, should use in the [Station] section of Cumulus.ini /dev/ttyACM0 instead of /dev/ttyUSB0

Code:
Port=/dev/ttyACM0
ComportName=/dev/ttyACM0

RE: New Station - rich27gc - 02-04-2017

It's taken a little longer than I wanted but the station is up and running   Big Grin  And wouldn't you know the weather here on the edge of the Lake District is calm and dry  Sad  so there isn't much too see!!!
I wanted to be up and running yesterday but I've had a problem with receiving data for some reason. When I got up today the RX unit had connected so I switched it off and back on and data came through, so I went for it.

The pics I've attached show the first versions of my setup, It may change in the future. Had a go at a radiation shield also.
I considered mounting the TX unit outside with a solar panel setup but after reading some threads on the forum decided that it would require quite a large panel for here in the north of England, plus I couldn't really get a good unrestricted view of the sun. So I decided to mount in the garage and power from a 12v supply.

The whole project from the start has been great fun, and of course it isn't finish yet!!!

Richard
