RE: Fine Offset sensors - spudstrawb - 03-04-2016

The AU$190 is just for the Davis 6410 wind speed and direction sensor, not the whole station. I was planning on just using the rain sensor from my LaCrosse WS3600. It's already mounted in place. I might do a calibration test on it as part of the new WeatherDuino construction and installation though.

RE: Fine Offset sensors - Wizza - 09-04-2016

Hi spud, I'm also in Aust and was looking to purchase the Davis wind speed and direction sensor at the moment for my new station. I figured the same, don't mind spending a bit more for quality and something that will last. Can you giv me any leads as to where to purchase Davis sensors in Aust..? Many thanks....

Hi Mark. I ordered it from Amazon ( https://www.amazon.com/Davis-Anemometer-Vantage-Pro2-amp/dp/B000WBR1QS/ref=sr_1_9?m=ACUH2CB0BK1CG&s=merchant-items&ie=UTF8&qid=1460184710&sr=1-9 ). They had 10 when I first looked and about a week later it was down to 4, so I grabbed one. It's showing only 2 left now, so jump in if you want one.

Cheers
Graeme

Thanks Graeme, While I'm there, I noticed the Davis rain sensor for the Vantage Pro2. Do you think that is a complete rain sensor for $89 and might it be compatible with our WeatherPro stations:

http://www.amazon.com/Davis-Rain-Collector-Spikes-Vantage/dp/B00N15J7WS/ref=pd_sim_86_7?ie=UTF8&dpID=41wIZnt%2BJPL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=049CDHKP59SDMF1WNNYV

If this looks like a complete rain sensor and it will be compatible, I'm think about ordering both. But just not sure if this rain sensor would be ok..????

Thanks

Mark R

If it is complete it will work with Weatherduino, as will any tipping bucket rain gauge. The great thing with Weatherduino is how flexible it is. With a few simple changes to the config file you can make a huge range of instrument qualities and types work. My anemometer and vane are research grade bought off ebay. Occasionally these instruments are sold on ebay at end of project. But you need to have some very specific search terms to find it.

Further down the page in the Customers Who Viewed This Item Also Viewed section, there is a replacement rain cone kit for US$37.50, so it looks like the US$89 would be a complete unit. Just guessing though.

Remember that it's all in $US, not $AU.

RE: Fine Offset sensors - JT118 - 09-04-2016

Looking at the link this it is difficult to see if it the whole thing or not;

This is the link for UK complete system from Germany.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DAVIS-VANTAGE-PRO-2-NEW-RAIN-GAUGE-WITH-BIRD-SAVE-COMPLETE-WEATHER-STATIONS-/381344394333?hash=item58c9e5ac5d:g:TEwAAOSwu4BVt2yK

Also here:

http://www.davisnet.com/support/weather/support_docs.asp?dtype=2
gives all the manuals, spec sheets etc.

Also on amazon presumably shipped from Australia;

This is the old version of the rain gauge. complete and just as good as the new one;

http://www.amazon.com/Davis-Instruments-7852-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B00002255X/ref=pd_sim_sbs_86_3?ie=UTF8&dpID=415XF4NT4KL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR112%2C160_&refRID=0JV25Z3XGRP992K3WEFQ

Mine has been working for 15 years.

If you want a real bargain;

http://www.hydroserv.com.au/products/meteo.asp

This is the real thing research grade.

Tipping bucket rain gauge is a good search on ebay and easy to put correct figure into weatherduino config.

Also this: anemometer only: (but expensive!) (and might need a bit of maths for the anemometer to calibrate to weatherduino outputs)

US$16.50

RE: Fine Offset sensors - Wizza - 10-04-2016

Graeme, I just went to purchase the Davis 6410 wind speed and direction sensor, and the Davis rain sensor (as discussed above), and the Amazon shipping to Aus was about $130. So I've paused on that avenue, and looking around a little further, just for now.... Sad
