Hi,

If that question is addressed to me, then my "improvements" to the FO Vane behaviour are purely a "spin off" from the main aim of the project - to add "Sunshine" data to any "standard" FO station.  IMHO the sunshine sensor must be at the top of a mast with the wind sensors (something that even most Davis stations don't accommodate), so the idea is to share (or borrow) the wind cable (and the transmitter, rechargeable batteries, etc.).  The (other) main part of my project is to use "electronics/computing tricks" to avoid having to build any complex "custom" hardware.

The FO vane has a really "weird" magnetic circuit and I don't think the vane direction could be easily read by a single analogue magnetic sensor.  That's probably why the "Holman" manufacturers "stole" FO's basic 8-sensors method.

Cheers,  Alan.
