Full Version: First Time Powerup of Rx Board Vers 4.03

I finally received some TFT displays ordered on eBay and have connected one to the v4.03 receive board which has a RTC, a BMP085 module and a 433Mhz receiver installed. It also has all the necessary components in place but no DHT22. Have installed the latest software in the Nano and have a nice display.

The date shows 31-12-2165, the time is 23:60 60 and does not update.

A couple of questions:
1. Am I getting ahead of myself in expecting to see some meaningful data on the TFT screen as there is no Tx unit powered up yet?
1. Where does the RTC get it's date/time information from?
2. Do I need to install third party software maybe Cumulus etc to provide the date time from my PC via the USB serial connection?
3. The Rx board seems happy to power from the Nano USB connector without the external supply. Are there any rules about powering the Rx board. ie external, nano, both at the same time.
4. Should I see any reading from the BMP085? All readings are 0 at the moment with no TX unit.

Hi Dave,
You have point 1 twice Smile
In absence of Werk_AG, my answers may be only partially correct, but may help until he pops in.

1) Yes. IIRC the screen updates on receiving a packet. Werk_AG may need to confirm this.
1a) The RTC gets it time sync from Cumulus. You can run a sketch to update it also.
2) See above.
3) The RX unit should be powered by an external power supply, especially when the data relay TX module is installed.
4) Probably related to 1 or you're not running the latest version..

1) and 4) IIRC can be forced to update by uncommenting this line (around line number 422) in the RX code
//Update_Display(); // HERE JUST FOR TESTING
and recompiling and uploading. Remember to undo this step when your TX unit is up and running.
Follow uncle_bob indications, but first install the DHT22. The code will not run without it
Thanks Guys for the info, I think I am just a little too keen to see some results and maybe a glass too many of red wine while asking the questions.Angry

I will wait until I have all the parts delivered and try with a complete system. My order to all the eBay suppliers went out during Chinese New Year and the parts are dribbling in as each day passes(bad timing).

Going away for a break so hopefully when I get back I will have everything I have ordered and be hassling you guys again with more silly questions. Huh

My experience tells me that a glass or two of a good red wine (especially if it is a Portuguese wine), will improve the quality of the construction. SmileSmileSmile
I will look for some(Portuguese) next time I am in the market for a few bottles.Wink Aussie reds are pretty good too! Big Grin
