It is a great disappointment. The camera does not have FTP again ...![]()
It's probably better to buy from a local merchant than China, even though the price is multiplied ...
(This is the 3rd camera I bought and claimed to have FTP).

No, I have now another idea: to cameras hacking ...
(There is only old Linux in them.)
Maybe ...

Hikvision could be worth a look. I have a dome camera for security at the front of the house. It has been running just more than a year and is excellent. Records to micro SD card, is a network IP camera so can be used with PVR systems. It also sends alerts to email if you set it to, and has a fully configurable FTP panel.
I have not played with the day/night settings, although the interface suggests to me you could switch it to be one or the other, or even set a schedule to achieve.
It is a robust unit, and I believe there are pan tilt zoom models available. I got mine from Aliexpress and was here in a week. The only thing I remember is ensuring it is an international/English version so the firmware could be updated without then being stuck in Chinese. I have performed one firmware update which was required to support email to gmail when Google discontinued a protocol, and it works fine.
They have WiFi versions as well as LAN and the power over ethernet ones generally can be powered by a 12 volt adaptor plug (separate input) if no power over ethernet is available. I use power over ethernet with mine.

IP cameras and PVR systems from Hikvision, probably are one of the bests, that we can buy from China. Usually are very good quality.

Hi,
The main problem is that I thought I could buy a cheap camera that would have FTP - when everyone promises ...
I have a total of 9 cameras around my house, one with PTZ, and HVR. But for the weather (on the roof) I wanted
to save ...

And thank you for your tips, maybe I will try it again ...

Will the Hikvision IP dome cameras work well as a sky camera pointed straight up, day and night?

Hi,
I personally think that dome cameras are not suitable for weather purposes. Their watertightness is based
on hanging from above, but we need it upside down ...
But I like the tip of HIKVISION, I found, for example, this one:
HIKVISION DS-2CD1021-I 2.8mm - it cost USD 70.00
But with another purchase I will wait, because Chinese technicians are now solving the issue of a possible upgrade
(they promised FTP, but it is not). Meanwhile, I managed to get an image from the last one over http into my Raspbian,
so I can will compare the output quality of the last camera to the one I am using.
